Preventive medical check-ups

Even with subjectively good vision and well-being, an incipient eye disease may already be present. For this reason, the Society of Austrian Ophthalmologists recommends annual routine check-ups as a preventive measure.
For a quality check-up, please take your current glasses and/or contact lenses with you, as well as a current medication list.

The following findings are collected during a detailed precautionary examination

  • Examination of spectacle prescription and visual performance
  • Slit lamp examination of the eyelids and tear ducts, the anterior segment of the eye, the cornea, iris and lens
  • If necessary, optical coherence tomography (OCT) is carried out at our eye center
  • A detailed diagnosis also includes a retinal examination. This involves examining the posterior segment of the eye - the vitreous body, the optic nerve head, the macula and the peripheral retina using special examination equipment.

Remark:

For a detailed examination, it is necessary to dilate the pupil in order to examine the entire retina. This is the only way for the ophthalmologist to accurately check for possible weak points and diseases of the retina.

You should not operate a vehicle after the pupils have dilated. It is best to come without a vehicle or accompanied by someone who is fit to drive.
